At How to Tell Great Stories, we help organizations transform their history into a living source of identity, connection, and future possibility. Through research, imagination, creative direction, and strategic storytelling, we uncover the people, pivotal moments, traditions, and experiences that reveal why an organization’s work matters.

A legacy storytelling campaign can become one of an organization's most enduring communication and engagement assets. We help corporations, nonprofits, universities, foundations, and community organizations transform institutional memory into storytelling assets. These assets include: compelling films, interviews, podcasts, publications, digital experiences, and other storytelling assets. They strengthen and continue creating value long after the campaign concludes.

More than preserving the past, we help organizations activate stories that connect generations - preserving the wisdom of those who built the institution, while giving today's leaders and tomorrow's audiences new ways to connect with its purpose and legacy.

We don’t simply preserve your history. We transform your legacy into a powerful resource for your future.

Narrative Strat Top.jpg

We help organizations move beyond simply communicating information to creating narratives that people can understand, remember, and act upon. At How to Tell Grest Stories, we bring together imagination, strategic thinking, creativity, and storytelling expertise to uncover the human meaning behind an organization. We explore the organization’s mission, ideas, leadership, and impact. Whether helping an executive articulate a vision, a nonprofit communicate its impact, or a corporation strengthen its brand and culture, we turn complex ideas into stories that make organizations more relatable, memorable, and influential. Our approach helps clients discover not only what they want to say, but the most compelling way to make audiences care.

Strategic storytelling becomes especially powerful when it connects purpose with people. We help organizations create narrative systems that can travel across various methods and mediums. Whether it’s leadership presentations, fundraising initiatives or public relations campaigns, we collaborate with clients to strategically devise plans that maintain a consistent and authentic voice.

More than helping organizations communicate what they do, we empower organizations to move from messaging to meaning. Enabling them to move from simply telling people what they do - to showing them why what they do matters and what becomes possible when they believe in the meaning behind their story.

We help organizations discover the story that makes their purpose matter—and moves people to believe, connect, and act.

Pub Speak Top.jpg

Public speaking is more than delivering information—it is the art of creating an experience that makes people think, feel, remember, and act. The How to Tell Great Stories’ Public Speaking Academy helps executives, emerging leaders, teams, and organizations transform ideas into compelling messages. By combining storytelling, strategic message development, creativity, coaching, and performance, participants become more impactful communicators.

Through customized coaching and experiential learning, participants develop an authentic speaking voice. This leads to greater confidence and executive presence, stronger presentation skills, and the ability to adapt their message to diverse audiences and settings. Their newfound authentic voice commands boardrooms and conferences to classrooms, congregations, virtual platforms, and high-stakes environments.

Rather than teaching people to sound like someone else, we help speakers discover the distinctive experiences, perspectives, and strengths that make their voice worth hearing. This allows them to use those assets to connect with an audience. The result is communication that feels authentic, looks polished, and moves beyond simply delivering a message to creating moments that people remember and act upon.

More than helping clients become better speakers, we help them become powerful communicators who make ideas come alive and inspire others to action.

In an environment where organizations are competing for relevance, leaders need more than polished talking points. Leaders need a distinctive voice, a compelling point of view, and the ability to make complex ideas meaningful. How to Tell Great Stories helps leaders embrace being thought leadership, where you transform expertise into influence and communication into leadership.

We work with executives, nonprofit leaders, educators, clergy, entrepreneurs, healthcare professionals, and public leaders to develop communication strategies that connect who they are, what they know, and what they believe with the audiences they are called to influence. Through imagination, strategic storytelling, and creative communication, we help leaders move from simply delivering messages to shaping conversations and creating moments of meaningful influence.

Thought leadership becomes powerful when ideas consistently educate and challenge people. Thought leadership becomes elevated when it invites people into a larger conversation. We help leaders identify the ideas worth sharing and we develop those ideas into compelling narratives. Over time, we create a body of content that builds credibility. From articles and opinion essays to podcasts, interviews, newsletters, educational resources, and multimedia storytelling, we help transform individual expertise into a stronger leadership voice. This leads to a recognizable body of thought, a deeper audience relationship and a platform for sustained influence.

We help leaders become voices people recognize and leaders people are inspired to follow.

Comm Social Top.jpg

Purpose-driven organizations engage with How to Tell Great Stories when they need help transforming important ideas into compelling narratives that people can believe in and join. Social impact requires more than communicating what an organization does, it requires helping people see why the work matters and envision the role they can play in creating change.

We bring imagination, creativity, storytelling, and strategic communication together to help corporations, nonprofits, foundations, faith communities, and civic organizations make complex issues human, possibilities visible, and action meaningful. From social impact and awareness campaigns to community storytelling, advocacy, coalition communication, narrative change, civic engagement, and impact content, we build communication ecosystems. These ecosystems sustain attention, deepen trust, strengthen partnerships, and move audiences beyond awareness toward engagement and action.

Our work adds value by helping organizations build sustained engagement rather than one-time attention. The result is the development of communication ecosystems that: 1) provide multiple opportunities to encounter an idea; 2) understand its significance; 3) hear from the people most affected; 4) discover meaningful ways to participate, and 5) contribute to meaningful social change.

We don’t simply help organizations tell people what they are doing. We create stories that make people care, see what is possible, and discover their role in creating change.

Youth Emerg Top.jpg

At How to Tell Great Stories, we believe young people are not simply the leaders of tomorrow—they are already interpreting, influencing, and shaping the communities around them. Our Youth & Emerging Leader Civic Engagement programs create imaginative spaces. Young people can explore history, leadership, faith, civic responsibility, and public voice. Through storytelling, public speaking, interactive learning, and community engagement, we help emerging leaders connect their personal experiences to larger social narratives. They discover how their unique voices can contribute to meaningful change.

Our work adds value to organizations by developing a pipeline of emerging leaders. These leaders can communicate effectively, collaborate across differences, and translate ideas into meaningful community action. We partner with schools, universities, churches, nonprofits, corporations, foundations, and civic organizations to create customized experiences that connect learning with real-world engagement. Whether through a youth leadership academy, storytelling workshop, civic initiative, mentorship experience, or community-based learning project, we create opportunities for young people to practice leadership rather than simply learn about it.

The result is a growing cadre of leaders. Leaders who have gained greater confidence, stronger communication and collaboration skills, deeper community connection and increased civic participation. The leaders are equipped to understand the world they have inherited. They can then imagine what is possible, and help create what comes next.

We give young people the voice, imagination, relationships, and experience to begin leading now.
